Trust, safety & the law.

Guns Vault is a classified marketplace that connects Texas-resident buyers and sellers. We do not process payments, hold inventory, or take possession of any firearm. Every user is responsible for complying with all federal, Texas state, and local laws. Read this page carefully — by using Guns Vault, you agree to all of it.

What Guns Vault is — and isn't

Guns Vault is a digital classifieds platform. It exists to help legal Texas residents connect with each other for the lawful purchase, sale, and trade of firearms, optics, and accessories.

What we do

  • Provide a verified-membership marketplace for listings
  • Verify Texas residency and basic identity for all members
  • Offer AI-assisted information about listings, market value, and Texas firearm law
  • Moderate listings to remove illegal items and prohibited content
  • Provide messaging tools so buyers and sellers can connect directly

What we don't do

  • Process firearm sales or take possession of any firearm
  • Handle payments between buyers and sellers
  • Run NICS background checks (those happen at FFL transfers)
  • Act as a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) — we are not a dealer
  • Provide legal advice — for that, consult a licensed attorney
Bottom line:

The transaction happens between you and the other user, in person, in Texas, in compliance with the law. Guns Vault is the bulletin board — not the broker.

Texas firearm law — the basics

Texas has some of the most permissive firearm laws in the United States, but every transaction must still comply with both federal law and Texas state law. Here are the essentials every Guns Vault user should know:

Private sales between Texas residents

Texas allows private firearm sales between residents without going through a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL). However, the seller must reasonably believe the buyer is legally allowed to purchase and possess a firearm. If you have any doubt about the buyer, do not sell — full stop.

Federal age limits (apply in Texas)

  • You must be 18 or older to purchase a long gun (rifle, shotgun) — federal floor
  • You must be 21 or older to purchase a handgun — federal floor
  • FFLs must follow these rules; private sellers must follow these rules; Guns Vault enforces these rules

Carry laws

Texas has permitless carry (also called constitutional carry) for adults 21 and older who may legally possess a handgun under state and federal law. A License to Carry (LTC) is still available and offers reciprocity with other states and certain location-based privileges.

Suppressors, SBRs, and NFA items

NFA-regulated items (suppressors, short-barreled rifles, machine guns, etc.) require an ATF Form 4 transfer through an FFL. Guns Vault permits NFA listings only when both parties confirm in writing that the transfer will be completed through a licensed Class 3 dealer. NFA items cannot be transferred privately regardless of state law.

This is not legal advice.

Laws change. Local ordinances vary. The information above is a general summary — for a question about your specific situation, contact a Texas-licensed attorney or the ATF.

Prohibited persons

Federal law (18 U.S.C. § 922(g)) lists categories of people who are prohibited from purchasing, owning, or possessing firearms or ammunition. If any of the following applies to you, you may not buy, sell, or list firearms on Guns Vault. Listing, purchasing, or attempting to obtain a firearm while prohibited is a federal felony.

Prohibited persons include, but are not limited to:
  • Anyone convicted of a felony (or a misdemeanor punishable by more than one year)
  • Anyone subject to a domestic-violence protective order
  • Anyone convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence
  • Anyone dishonorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces
  • Anyone adjudicated as mentally defective or committed to a mental institution
  • Unlawful users of, or addicted to, any controlled substance
  • Anyone who has renounced U.S. citizenship
  • Undocumented immigrants and most non-immigrant visa holders
  • Fugitives from justice
  • Anyone under indictment for a crime punishable by more than one year

Sellers — if you have any reason to believe a buyer falls into a prohibited category, refuse the sale and report the user to Guns Vault. You can be held criminally liable for selling to a prohibited person.

Age requirements

  • Guns Vault membership: 18+ required. Verified at signup.
  • Long gun listings & purchases: 18+ required (federal & Texas)
  • Handgun listings & purchases: 21+ required (federal & Texas)
  • Ammunition: 18+ for rifle/shotgun ammo, 21+ for handgun ammo

Guns Vault verifies age at signup and again before any handgun listing is published. Misrepresenting your age is a federal crime and grounds for permanent account termination.

FFL transfers — recommended best practice

A Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) transfer is when a private sale is processed through a licensed dealer who runs a NICS background check on the buyer. Texas does not require FFL transfers for private sales between residents, but Guns Vault strongly recommends them for the following reasons:

  • Liability protection — the FFL verifies the buyer is legal to purchase
  • Paper trail — official record of the transfer in case of future questions
  • Safe location — most FFLs allow transfers in their lobby with cameras
  • Buyer confidence — many serious buyers prefer FFL transfers

FFL transfer fees in Texas typically run $25–$50. By tradition, the buyer pays the transfer fee, but this is negotiable between parties. Most large gun stores (Academy, Cabela's, Bass Pro, plus thousands of independent FFLs) will process private transfers.

Pro tip:

Even if you're not running an FFL transfer, meeting at a gun store's parking lot is a smart move — they're public, well-lit, on camera, and full of people who know firearms.

What you cannot list on Guns Vault

The following items may never be listed, sold, or traded on Guns Vault. Listing them is grounds for immediate account termination and may be reported to law enforcement:

  • Stolen firearms or firearms with altered/removed serial numbers
  • Fully automatic firearms (machine guns) without proper Class 3 documentation and FFL involvement
  • Suppressors, SBRs, or other NFA items without confirming Form 4 / FFL Class 3 transfer
  • "Ghost guns" — unserialized homemade firearms without proper Texas/federal compliance
  • Auto sears, lightning links, or any conversion device that makes a firearm fully automatic
  • Bump stocks (federally prohibited as of 2019)
  • Body armor sold to prohibited persons
  • Drugs, controlled substances, or paraphernalia
  • Items prohibited under the National Firearms Act without proper transfer
  • Items prohibited by state of Texas law
  • Counterfeit, fake, or replica items misrepresented as authentic
  • Any firearm or component you do not legally own

Safe-meeting guide

Most Guns Vault transactions go smoothly. The few that don't, almost always involved a buyer or seller skipping basic safety. Follow these rules to keep yourself protected:

  • Meet in a public, well-lit, camera-covered location — gun store parking lots, police-station "safe exchange zones," and shooting ranges are ideal
  • Never share your home address with someone you haven't transacted with before
  • Bring a second person if possible — a buddy, a partner, anyone
  • Verify the firearm before exchanging cash — function check, bore inspection, serial number match
  • Use cash or in-person bank transfer only — never wire money, never PayPal "friends & family," never crypto for the actual transaction
  • Confirm the other party's Texas residency — Texas DL, Texas vehicle registration, or Texas voter registration
  • Trust your gut — if something feels off, walk away
  • Report suspicious behavior to Guns Vault and to local police if a crime is being committed

Moderation policy

Guns Vault employs both automated and human moderation. Listings are reviewed for:

  • Compliance with prohibited-items policy
  • Accurate description and category
  • Reasonable pricing (extreme outliers are flagged for review)
  • Prohibited language: hate speech, threats, illegal activity
  • Spam and duplicate listings

Listings that violate our policies are removed. Repeat violations result in account suspension. Severe violations — particularly anything suggesting an attempt to sell to a prohibited person, sell stolen property, or facilitate an illegal transfer — are reported to the appropriate law-enforcement agency and result in permanent account termination.

If you see a listing that violates our policies, click "Report this listing" on the listing page. We review all reports within 24 hours.
